Collection: Lemi Ghariokwu
Lemi Ghariokwu is a contemporary artist of global renown. He gained prominence primarily through his role as Fela Kuti’s Art Director and Brand Manager. Over the course of three decades, he designed 26 album covers which captured the essence of Fela’s music and the revolutionary ethos behind it. Lemi is a key voice of the people, and has graciously shared a selection of works from his archives.
Lemi’s distinctive style is marked by bold colours, intricate details and socio-political messaging, all purposefully crafted to reflect his ideological beliefs. His work often highlights themes of political activism, social justice and African and Nigerian identity, but resonates deeply with audiences far beyond Africa’s borders. Despite his close partnership with Fela, Lemi boasts an extensive body of work that spans far beyond his collaborations with the artist. The variety of mediums, styles, and content across his oeuvre illustrate his collectivist ideologies, as with each era he continues to evolve and adapt.
